Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) growing on birch trees takes up high levels of betulinic acid from the bark of the trees. It is this betulinic acid and its derivatives that plays a major role in Chaga's unique therapeutic activity and is the reason why traditionally only Chaga harvested from birch trees was used.
